With the Festive Season Holidays fast approaching, do not become a road accident statistic!
Emergency Assist 991 urges all Botswana road users to take personal responsibility and to BE SAFE, BE VIGILANT, AND TO STAY ALIVE, so that you, your family, or friends do not become a Road Accident Statistic in Botswana this 2020 festive season!
Statistics indicate that the number of deaths and injuries from road accidents is relatively high compared with other African countries. The main causes of accidents are speeding and drunken driving and the increasing traffic congestion during rush hours in the urban areas. Other contributing factors are distracted driving and driving while fatigued.
For 2020, Botswana has experienced the lowest road traffic deaths due to the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions of movement, however, trends from the past, and calls to the Emergency Assist 991 call centre, indicates that high road traffic crashes and casualties mostly happen during this time of the year which is usually characterised by Christmas festivities and heightened travel across the country by all road users.
Emergency Assist 991 is committed to Road Safety in Botswana and will continue providing public education and road safety awareness through various media platforms during this festive season.
We wish all our EA991 Members, and Batswana, a blessed, safe and peaceful Christmas Holidays, and please do not become a road accident statistic!
